FAQs

We get a lot of questions during our tattoo enquiry process, so in order to make your experience that little bit better, we've answered the most commonly asked questions. Don't fret though, if you have another question that is not answered here, feel free to get in touch with us.

Does getting tattooed hurt?

The short answer is yes, tattoos do hurt. But the longer answer is that the sensation is extremely manageable and more “uncomfortable” than “painful”. Obviously, there are differences depending on what style of tattoo you’re getting, who is tattooing you, and what area of the body you are getting tattooed. It isn’t a universal rule, but if somewhere is ticklish, it tends to be a more painful area. Everyone at Losers Club will make sure you feel as comfortable as possible during your session, and we can stop/have breaks whenever you want to. It’s important to remember that if it was that bad, we wouldn’t be as busy as we are!

How much is a tattoo?

A tattoo can cost anything from £40 (our minimum charge) up to thousands of pounds. Our artists all charge different hourly and daily rates, and the cost of a tattoo varies greatly depending on the style of tattooing, the area of the body being tattooed and the detail of the design. If you email us with your idea, we are usually able to get at least get back to you with a rough estimate on both how long your tattoo will take and how much it will fairly quickly.

3

How long do tattoos take?

Same as the cost, the time is dependant on a number of factors. For example, colour tattoos often take longer than blackwork tattoos. A tattoo on the ribs will take much longer than a tattoo on a calf (stretchier skin takes longer to tattoo). Once we know your idea we will beable to give you a at least a rough idea on how long we think something will take, and if it’s a certain number of hours, we are happy to break down the tattoo into smaller sessions if that’s something you’d prefer to do.

4

Do you have a book of designs I can come and look through?

Losers Club is an appointment-only private studio, which means although we welcome anyone who wants to pre-book a consultation and have a look around the studio before committing to booking with us, we do not take “walk-in” appointments. Everything we tattoo has been designed specifically for our customers ahead of time, so we don’t have “flash” books for people to browse through and choose from. If you’ve seen a tattoo design you like from one of these kind of books that’s perhaps super common, maybe let us tweak it a little so you get something that’s totally unique to you!

5

I want a tattoo but I haven’t found the right design yet. What should I do?

Then you’re in the right place. We don’t need a final, finished design. Losers Club is an entirely custom tattoo studio, which means every tattoo we do is designed specifically for our customer. We only need an idea of what you’re thinking, and to know where on the body and how big you want it to be. Reference pictures are also helpful but not always necessary. We will design your tattoo from scratch, just for you, and this is included in the cost of the tattoo.

6

Can I draw my own design for my tattoo?

Yes! If you think you’ve created your own version of exactly what you want, attach the image to an email and send it over to us (info@losersclubtattoo.com) and let us know where you want it to go on your body and how big. There may need to be some tweaking involved (some things need to be a certain size, or sit a certain way on a specific area of the body etc), but we would be happy to work with what you’ve come up with.

7

Can I get a tattoo if I have a specific medical condition?

If you have a medical condition that you think may affect you getting tattooed, we strongly advise you seek the opinion of a medical doctor before booking a tattoo. This is also true if you are taking medication that you think may affect either the tattooing process, or the healing of a tattoo. Tattooists are not medical professionals, and your health should always come first. As an example, we cannot tattoo anyone who is taking blood-thinning medication, or who is pregnant or chest-feeding.

8

Can I get a tattoo over excema/psoriasis/scar tissue?

If you have a skin condition that you think might make it difficult to get tattooed, we would be happy to try and help. We cannot tattoo over conditions such as excema or psoriasis, and don’t recommend that you book a tattoo in hopes that on the particular day of your appointment, the area you want to be tattooed is clear. If you know your skin condition only appears in one place on your body, and the tattoo is not going to be near that area, then this is usually fine. The artists at Losers Club have years of experience of covering scarred skin tissue, and we are more than happy to help discern whether a certain area of skin is ready to be tattooed yet. Usually you have to work at a much slower pace, and spread out the tattoo appointments into smaller sessions, but it can be done. We’d just need to see the skin before booking in with us to be sure.

9

Do you do cover up tattoos?

Yes. All of the artists at Losers Club are experienced in successful tattoo cover-ups and would be more than happy to help you create a design to cover something you’re unhappy with. When you email us to enquire, just please include a clear picture of the tattoo you want covering up (and if it isn’t evident from the photo, tell us where on the body and what approximate size it is). With cover-ups you often need to be a little more compromising on the size and colour of your new tattoo than you would if it was on blank skin, but if you trust your artist, you can end up completely and successfully hiding the old tattoo forever.

10

How do I know which artist I should book with for my tattoo?

If you aren’t sure which artist would be best for your tattoo, you can simply just email us with your idea and we will let you know who would be best for the job. If you have a specific date you want the tattoo either on or before, we can look to see who’s schedule works best for you. The email is info@losersclubtattoo.com.

11

How do I book a tattoo?

The simplest way to book a tattoo with us is just to enquire through email. The general email is info@losersclubtattoo.com and we usually reply to everyone within 24 hours (often much quicker than that). We just need to know what it is that you want, where on your body, and an approximate size. If you feel reference pictures would help, then feel free to attach them to the email. One of us will be back in touch with you asap to let you know if we need any additional info, a time/price quote etc and if you’re happy, we can guide you through the artist’s booking process.

12

Why do I have to pay a deposit?

We always ask for a deposit when booking a tattoo as this forms both our pre-payment for the design process, and also acts as a guarantee that a customer will show up at their allotted appointment. In the event that the customer cancels the appointment last minute, or doesn’t show up, the deposit covers our time. The deposit comes off the price of the tattoo on the day of the appointment, so it’s essentially just a partial pre-payment. We take deposits either through Paypal or bank transfer, and the artist you’re booking in with will guide you through this, as well as explaining our full deposit policy.

13

Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?

We usually don’t have a problem with customers bringing someone with them to their appointment but it’s often good just to give us a heads up first, as the shop can get very full, very quickly if everyone brings a friend. We don’t allow groups of people to accompany the customer getting tattooed (just one friend, please!) and we don’t allow anyone under the age of 18 into the building.

14

What do I bring with me to a tattoo appointment?

It’s always a good idea to bring a snack and a sugary drink to your appointment to keep your sugar levels up. Please wear comfy clothes, and if you’re going to be with us for the day, bring some lunch! We even have customers that bring their own pillows. You are also welcome to bring headphones, books etc. It also goes without saying that you should bring your method of payment to pay for your tattoo (we currently can’t do card payments - so cash, or be able to send via PayPal/bank transfer) and photo ID.

15

What do I do while I’m being tattooed? Do I just lie there?

If you want to just “lie there” then you are more than welcome to do that! A lot of customers comment on the fact that tattoo appointments are strangely enjoyable because it’s a portion of time where the only thing that’s expected of you is to just… lie there. But if you want to chat to us, that’s fine too! We almost always have the TV on in the studio so are happy to let customers choose what they want to watch while getting tattooed. But we are also happy if you want to zone-out with headphones in and ignore us while we work. We have sugary snacks and drinks at the studio, as well as fidget toys for people who feel more comfortable having something to play with. If you have a specific request for your appointment (ie a silent appointment, or completely private with no one else present apart from you and your artist, please let us know well in advance and we will happily accommodate you).

16

How do I look after my new tattoo?

Your artist will fully guide you through the aftercare process at the end of your appointment and make sure you leave our shop will all the information you need to make sure the tattoo heals perfectly. We always give everyone an information sheet at the end of their session that details aftercare, so that customers can refer back to it at home.

16

How long do tattoos take to fully heal?

A tattoo will often be completely healed within two weeks. There are factors that either shorten or lengthen this timeframe, (size of tattoo, the area of the body that’s been tattooed etc) and as a general rule full colour tattoos will take longer to heal than a fine line tattoo. During a tattoo’s healing time we strongly recommend that a customer doesn’t not submerge their healing tattoo in water (such as going swimming or taking a bath).
